PlayStation’s LittleBigPlanet was unlike any game out there.  A platform and puzzle game, LBP let players create their own levels and share their creations with the LBP community. We needed a big idea to help explain and sell in this totally new genre.

We learned that there were two targets: people who simply wanted to play the game and players who wanted to play, create content, and share their creations. Instead of building content for both, we let the two targets talk to each other

We designed littlebigworkshop.com as LBP’s official community, learning and inspiration

center. Expert gamers display their creations and post video tutorials that instruct beginners on how to play, build levels, and design. Players make blueprints to easily devise new levels and share inspirational images and ideas that could be future user-generated game content.  Forums keep the discussions going; a blog provides news and updates.

Gamers have wholeheartedly adopted the site as their LBP resource. While the original goal was to drive 80,000 preorders, 96,000 sales were generated—120% of the objective. LittleBigPlanet is definitely The Next Big Thing, thanks largely to LittleBigWorkshop.
